Jon Browne is a dedicated and passionate individual with deep roots in the Columbia community, having called it home for over 50 years. He embarked on his journey of public service while pursuing his education at Clemson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education.
Returning to his alma mater, Oakland Mills High School, Jon has dedicated the past 29 years to educating and inspiring students. His roles have encompassed teaching mathematics, technical education, and computer science, shaping the minds of countless young individuals. Additionally, Jon has left an indelible mark on the school’s athletic landscape, notably as the Boys Basketball coach at “The Mill” for an impressive 27 seasons.
Beyond the classroom and the court, Jon Browne epitomizes the spirit of community involvement. He has extended his coaching expertise to youth basketball in HoCo, demonstrating a commitment to nurturing talent and instilling values beyond the game. Moreover, Jon actively volunteers his time and resources to various initiatives, including the OMHS Food Pantry, the OMHS Booster Club, Columbia Community Care, and the Kickin’ It ‘with Vell shoe drive initiative.
Looking ahead to a new journey after his tenure in teaching, Jon embarked on a venture by founding the “Jonathan Johnson Community Coalition” (JJCC). This non-profit organization honors the legacy of his lifelong friend, Jon-Jon (Jonathan Johnson), while also reflecting Jon’s vision for fostering a Columbia community where every citizen has access to opportunities for growth and success. Through JJCC, Jon Browne continues to champion causes close to his heart, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him.
