Meeting our mission through service, partnership, and support for Howard County
The Jonathan Johnson Community Coalition (JJCC) was created to honor the life and legacy of Jonathan “Jon Jon” Johnson by continuing the values he lived: kindness, inclusion, service, and care for others.
Since our inception, JJCC has worked to turn that spirit into action. Our purpose has been impact, rather than recognition. We try to show up for families, for young people, for educators, for local nonprofits, and for communities that deserve support, dignity, and opportunity.
Every fundraiser, partnership, sponsorship, event, and act of service has been guided by one simple belief: when a community comes together with compassion, we can help carry burdens, create pathways, and strengthen the people and organizations already doing meaningful work.

Supporting Local Nonprofits and Community Resources
JJCC is proud to support local nonprofit organizations that are deeply committed to meeting urgent needs in Howard County.
Through fundraising, sponsorships, and community events, we have helped raise support for organizations dedicated to hunger relief, family assistance, youth development, and access to essential resources. This includes support for local non profits, whose work provides food and community assistance to Howard County families with dignity and respect, and whose food pantries and grocery delivery services help reach neighbors facing barriers to consistent access to food. JJCC has also supported efforts for a community-centered space designed for workshops, meetings, education programs, shared meals, and connection. These investments reflect our belief that historically marginalized communities deserve not only assistance in moments of need, but also spaces where people can gather, learn, build relationships, and grow stronger together.
Standing With Families in Moments of Tragedy
Some of the most important work a community can do is also the most difficult to describe.
JJCC has supported families facing unspeakable tragedy, including helping with funeral expenses for youth whose lives were taken by gun violence. No act of generosity can remove the pain of such loss. But a caring community can make sure families are not left to carry every burden alone.
In those moments, JJCC’s role is simple: to respond with compassion, to ease immediate pressures where possible, and to remind grieving families that their children, their pain, and their healing matter to the entire community.
Honoring Howard County Educators
Teachers are often the quiet anchors of a community. They encourage, mentor, protect, challenge, and inspire our young people every day.
JJCC has recognized the extraordinary efforts of Howard County Public School teachers by sponsoring end-of-year events that celebrate their dedication and sacrifice. These gestures are one way to say thank you to educators who give so much of themselves throughout the school year.
By honoring teachers, we also honor the students and families they serve.
Investing in Education, Workforce, and Opportunity
JJCC believes that community support must include long-term pathways for growth.
That is why we have supported Howard Community College and its efforts to develop world-class facilities and workforce opportunities.
JJCC has also helped develop a first-of-its-kind apprenticeship program that gives high school youth the opportunity to perform social media marketing for local small businesses. This work connects young people to practical experience, creativity, entrepreneurship, and marketable skills — while also helping small businesses build visibility and strengthen their connection to the community. This apprenticeship programs emphasize real-world learning, professional connections, and “earn while you learn” pathways.
This is the kind of partnership JJCC hopes to continue expanding: one that supports youth, strengthens local businesses, and creates opportunity where it is needed most.
What Guides Our Work
The common thread in all of JJCC’s work is community support.
We support local nonprofits because they are already doing the daily work of feeding families, connecting people to resources, and serving neighbors with dignity.
We support families in crisis because no family should face tragedy alone.
We support teachers because their work shapes the future of Howard County.
We support educational and workforce pathways because young people deserve real opportunities to learn, lead, and build.
And we do all of this in Jonathan’s spirit — with humility, love, and a commitment to service.
